Skincare Review: Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser

This is another empty for the year! I’ve had this for like 2 or 3 years though, so it’s about time. There’s a little bit left that I’ve decanted into a small tub, but it’s effectively gone.

Yes, you can see my bottle is super well loved!

Empties, May 2016

Sorry about the silence. I haven’t really been in the mood for blogging. You know how your likes and dislikes kind of swing around and contradict themselves? Yeah, like that.

Just a short personal discussion – I was having some problems at my new workplace, and I felt that the almost-no make up look made me look more serious about work, rather than bothering about make up all the time – seriously. I think my boss was in an exceptionally bad mood that week and I really went very light to be Very Serious. Now that my performance is decent and she’s not as cranky, I’m happy to go back to my usual comfort level of make up.

I still wear quite a bit of make up, but sometimes I don’t feel like talking about me wearing make up. So I blog…. sometimes. And sometimes I don’t. But I do always try to make myself post something.

I’ve also been hard at work using shit up, so let’s take a look at the actual point of the post, my May empties! This is a little early because if not I’ll definitely forget this shit.

This was a bumper month, which was actually why I started collecting my empties. I tend to want to throw shit away as quickly as possible.

Foil samples:

Redflo Camellia Hair Shampoo (very unfortunately named…) and Debon Lily of the Valley conditioner, Carolina Herrera 212 Men sample, Mentholatum Acnes face wash.

The shampoo was quite nice, and the conditioner smelled terrible. They are Korean brands and these samples came free when I mass buy my sunscreens. The 212 sample is from my husband, and I wanted to use it up. The Mentholatum Acnes face wash was TERRIBLE, left my face super squeaky and broke me out after 2 washes. I still used it up by using it to wash brushes, which is how I use up all crap face washes.

Now onto the stuff I’m really proud of finishing! Because foil samples don’t count.

Clockwise:

Nicole by OPI top coat: I pick my topcoats out randomly on a whim. This was REALLY slow to dry, and hence very unsuitable for my fidgety personality, but it was very glossy, and the thickness meant it smoothed out imperfections quite well, and protected the nails relatively well. But I would not repurchase.

L’oreal Shine Caresse Gloss Stain in Venus: I’ve had this for a year plus, and it REALLY IS EMPTY, I did not throw it away because it turned bad or something. BEHOLD THE GLORY:

It has quite a perfumey smell and taste when it’s fresh, but my tube is a little old so thank goodness it has lost the smell and taste. Other than that, I absolutely love it. This is a semi sheer pink that perfects your lips without giving too much colour, and I could layer it over nearly any lipstick to refresh the colour and keep my lips moisturized and shiny. I could also apply this without a mirror. It also lasts well because it’s thicker, but it’s not sticky. I don’t like it that much on its own, I prefer its sister Lolita (which I heard has been discontinued :(((((( but it’s a great layering/everything gloss. This line is FREAKING AWESOME. Maybe will rebuy in a carefully considered colour.

Dior Hypnose Homme: Another one from my husband who has the biggest perfume collection in the world. This one had a teeny bit left, so I just sprayed it until it was gone. Not very special or nice.

Innisfree Orchid Enriched Cream: This appeared in my sample rundown post. It took me quite a while to finish it because there’s actually 10ml of moisturizer, which is 1/3-1/5 the size of an average moisturizer which lasts me goddamn forever. I have to say I don’t quite like it. I wash my face with water only in the mornings and pat it dry, but this does not come off with just water. Like I seriously don’t know what’s in this thing, but it just forms a hard film. I learnt the full extent of this when I was washing out the jar to keep to store other things. No wonder I had some small pimples when I was using this. It also doesn’t moisturize me particularly well. Will not repurchase.

Some Random Hotel Lotion: Yay for using it up.

Uriage Isolisse 1st wrinkles radiance cream: You guys, I don’t generally use a sample and think HOLY SHIT, IMMA BUY THIS but it happened with this. Which is why I cut the top off even though it was only a fucking sample. This was a medium weight cream – not too light, not too greasy that smelt slightly chocolatey and buttery so it smells and feels divine going on your face. It sinks in well and moisturizes well. Idk about wrinkles and other nonsense claims but it is a divinely nice moisturizer. It also costs $70 for 40ml here like what the fuck is wrong with you people. I would repurchase this if I could get a fantastic deal because I really liked this.

Now that I’m better settled in my job, hopefully I’ll be doing more make up and coming back to blogging!

Recent Empties

I has EMPTIES!!!

1. Za Dark Circles Gone (free event gift)

These came in a pack of 4 or something, and for some reason I hoarded the last one until recently. So I finally finished my last pack up. I don’t believe any product can get rid of dark eye circles, so whatever. At least they felt nice and squishy.

2. The Body Shop Vitamin C microdermabrasion

One of the old school so harsh it hurts face scrubs. I repurposed it as a neck and hands scrub, and it worked great for that. It also works great for around my ankles where I seem to accumulate dead skin. It’s seriously harsh. No repurchase ever.

3. Boots Keep It Sweet Vanilla Smoothie Shower Scrub

To be very frank this is terrible as a scrub, it’s simply not very scrubby. It is very rich and moisturizing though, and it rinses off very clean, no residue. I love this because of the DIVINE vanilla scent, and the very budget pricing (I believe you can usually get this for something like $10 SGD for 2 in Boots in Thailand.) I have many bottles of the same scent shower gel left, but I think I might repurchase this when I’m back in Bangkok.

VANILLA SMOOTHIE ME.

4. Dr Morita Moisturizing Essence Facial Mask (sheet mask)

I bought this way back in Taiwan in…… 2012. Like what the fuck am I doing, right? What’s so difficult about putting a sheet mask on your face?!

This comes with a LOT of extra essence, which I pour into a small bottle with a dropper. I used the extra for like 2 weeks after that, day and night. It has a very mild fragrance, and sinks into the skin easily, which is why it was great to use it as an essence/lotion first step, it is hydrating yet is absorbed super fast. I like it, but seeing how long I take to finish sheet masks, I won’t be buying more anytime soon. (I got a pack from some other brand of 6 for 10HKD (around $2 SGD) at some special sale in Hong Kong, so that will probably last me a year.)

So that’s about it. I’m very, very happy to finish up stuff. I would love to finish my make up but I don’t know why it takes SO LONG. My SANA Pore Putty primer is on its VERY last legs but just won’t quit dispensing, and my Chanel Vitalumiere is still going strong after I spent more than a YEAR trying to use the fucking thing up.

Make up Explosion: The Travel Edition

I found out on my recent trip that my cosmetic bag EXPLODED, in a particularly spectacular way.

My NYX HD Eyeshadow Base, which I’ve lost once before and liked enough to repurchase, exploded. Look below:

Oh the horror!

Luckily, nothing much was actually damaged although everything was covered in primer. I had a bitch of a time washing it out of my blush brush. I had to wipe down everything else too.

Photo 11-8-15 11 01 49 am

Here are the items that were damaged. All of them were either old or cheap. NYX Taupe was a beloved staple that I was sad about losing, but the pan was salvageable (only a small amount was lost) so it’s now sitting on top of my vanity and not going anywhere. The LA Girl palette is a mindclusterfuck palette filled with unusable colours, that I’ve had for a long time and just try to use up. The white liner was from Maybelline, old and with an atrocious texture, so I will just use it up quickly and get a new one. The Chanel is a 3 year old foundation that refuses to run out no matter how liberally I use it. The eyelash curler was sad: this particular one was really cheap and semi-pinched my lids but it curled SUPER WELL. Sobs. Everything except the curler was salvageable.

Empties

Yay, my first ever empties post!

I don’t think I use up products fast enough to do a monthly post, so it’ll just be an as and when thing I guess.

From L-R

Maxfactor Smoky Eye effect Eyeshadow tubes, Purply and bronze and black and white (can’t be assed to find out the name.)

Za Pure Shine Lips in OR3 Apricot Nectar

Lip Brush from a travel kit by TheFaceShop

K Palette 24H lasting waterproof liquid liner

The Maxfactor shadows were hands down the shittiest eyeshadows in the existence of mankind. NOTHING stopped them from creasing. They were shitty as a base, as eyeshadow, at life. Go google it if you don’t believe me. I did not finish using them actually, I depotted and repurposed them, which I will talk about in a future post.

Za Pure Shine lips was gabbed about here. Erm well technically this was not yet used up, I depotted the last bit.

Lip brush was a freebie in a travel kit received free at an event. It served me well for 3 years (well, I actually didn’t really use it for the first 2 years… lol) but somehow at the last washing the ferrule warped (?!?!) and the brush is fucked up now. Technically it’s still usable, because I used it today but it’s annoying and I will dump it as soon as I can get a replacement. I’m frugal, but not THAT frugal (but seeing how I always space my purchases out, it will be in a looooong time.)

K Palette 24HR Liner is a LIE. It freaking SMUDGES on me. Which fucking liquid liner SMUDGES. If I want smudges, I’ll go for a fucking pencil. It also fades away pretty easily. This was my first foray back into liquid liner and I was NOT LIKING IT. The tip also has hairs that are bent haywire and I don’t even use it much. It’s also not very black. Actually this is not finished, but I’m thinking if I should just throw the damn thing away.

So technically, I have finished none of the above products, harh harh.
